What a difference a day makes.
After a disheartening loss Saturday in a game coach Rick Bowness called the most disappointing of the year, the Stars responded with a 6-4 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks at United Center on Sunday.

It was a solid bounce back performance for the Stars, who improved 41-27-4 overall and moved two points up on Vegas for the second wild card. With Nashville losing in overtime earlier in the day, Dallas also moved to within a point of the Predators for the first wild card.
That's how close the standings are and why every game is so important.
The Stars' top line was a dominant force against the Hawks, who simply had no answer. Jason Robertson scored twice (both unanswered in the second period), Roope Hintz had a goal and three points, and Joe Pavelski added a goal and two points to snap Dallas' two-game losing streak.

The power play, mired in a woeful 2-for-28 slump entering the game, converted on both of its chances. Jamie Benn got the first of two power-play strikes on the night, a rebound chance 4:14 into the first period to give the Stars a 1-0 lead.

After surrendering consecutive goals to Philipp Kurashev and Jonathan Toews, Pavelski answered on the power play with a deflection off Tyler Seguin's shot from the left faceoff dot at the 13:45 mark of the first period.
