About hockey in North Texas

When the Stars moved to Dallas in 1993, there were five total sheets of ice in the area, only three of which hosted hockey. At that time, there were no high school or travel hockey programs offered, while only 250 local children were playing the sport and just 225 adults were participating in recreational leagues. With the organization's investment into amateur hockey over the past 25 years through construction of StarCenters throughout the Metroplex, the team has directly impacted the growth of the game in the greater Southwest region. Today, there are more than 10,000 North Texas children and over 6,000 adults skating and playing recreational hockey on over 20 ice sheets in the area.

About the City of Mansfield

The City of Mansfield, located in southeast Tarrant County, is one of the fastest growing communities in Texas, with a population of more than 68,000. Its growth over the past decade is attributed to its high quality of life, excellent schools and strong local economy and business environment. The city was ranked by Money Magazine as one of the Best Places to Live in America in 2007, 2009, 2012 and 2014. The StarCenter Mansfield will join the city's award-winning parks and recreation system, recently named the best in the state by the Texas Recreation and Parks Society. The system boasts more than 800 acres of parkland with 19 parks and athletic/recreational facilities. The new ice rink will join FieldhouseUSA as the city facilities located in the Shops at Broad, a mixed-use lifestyle center with more than 500,000 square feet of retail.
