FRISCO, Texas -- Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity today announces a partnership with the Dallas Stars Foundation (DSF) and TaxAct® in support of its Pocketwise Prep platform with the goal of furthering financial literacy for Dallas ISD students. DSF and TaxAct have committed $15,000 to Dallas Habitat's educational program in celebration of Financial Literacy Month in April - ultimately driving financial literacy which can lead to breaking the cycle of generational poverty, beginning with students.

"We are proud to support a program that can impact not only those who take part in the curriculum, but their families and future generations," said Marty Turco, Dallas Stars Foundation President. "We're honored to continue our longstanding partnership with Dallas Habitat and also want to thank our friends at TaxAct for coming alongside of this effort with us."
Pocketwise Prep is Dallas Habitat's digital financial literacy program which provides Dallas ISD K-12
students a curriculum that offers students digital-based learning to guide them from foundational knowledge to having the ability and willingness to make informed financial decisions throughout their life. The modules teach about finances, saving, homeownership, and more, providing foundational lessons that help students start healthy financial habits at a young age. This investment will help further these initiatives and reach more students across Dallas ISD.
"Our Pocketwise Prep platform is designed to help strengthen communities and empower families to break the cycle of asset poverty through online financial education," said Blaine Cowart, Vice President of Homeowner Services at Dallas Habitat. "This incredible partnership and demonstration of generosity from the Dallas Stars Foundation and TaxAct will allow us to continue putting these innovative and interactive tools directly into the hands of children and their parents across Dallas ISD."
Pocketwise Prep is an extension of Habitat's successful online education program, PocketWise CAFE, which is an adult digital financial capability platform created in 2019 and has since supported over 2,000 families in completing 15,500 modules. In Dallas ISD specifically, 88% of students are economically disadvantaged, and Dallas County data demonstrates geographic segregation by educational attainment that mirrors segregation patterns by income and race or ethnicity. Activated campuses are located within low-income areas of opportunity and Habitat's priority communities, as they work to empower families in these neighborhoods. To date, the program has had success in engaging more than 500 students across 11 Dallas ISD campuses.
"We couldn't be happier to partner with the Dallas Stars Foundation and Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity in this effort," said Curtis Campbell, TaxAct President. "We cannot stress enough the importance of establishing a strong financial foundation early on in life, which is why we're passionate about helping these students get access to the Pocketwise Prep platform so they can have the skills and knowledge to reach all of their financial goals."
The program is available in the classroom and online through the DISD student portal, and it is free for anyone to use. To learn more about Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity and its financial education programs, visit
