Mavrik Bourque wins Guy Lafleur Trophy as QMJHL postseason MVP

After leading the Shawinigan Cataractes to its first-ever President Cup (QMJHL championship), Stars prospect Mavrik Bourque won the Guy Lafleur Trophy as MVP of the QMJHL playoffs on Saturday.

Bourque, 20, finished the postseason with a team-leading 25 points (nine goals, 16 assists) and a +17 rating in 16 games, including five goals and nine points against Charlottetown in the championship (five games). The Plessisville, Quebec native had goals in four of the five games against the Islanders and had six points (three goals, three assists) in Games 1 and 2.

With their championship-clinching 4-3 overtime victory in Game 5, the Cataractes punched their ticket to the 2022 Memorial Cup for just the second time in franchise history. Shawinigan will open its tournament on June 21 against the WHL champion. (The Memorial Cup begins June 20 in Saint John).

Bourque has amassed 236 points (93 goals, 143 assists) in 172 career regular-season games with Shawinigan and 36 points (15 goals, 21 assists) in 27 postseason contests. He also appeared in six games with the American Hockey League's Texas Stars in the 2020-21 season, compiling five points (one goal, four assists).
