Wyatt Johnston named OHL's Most Outstanding Player for 2021-22 season

The Ontario Hockey League announced on Tuesday that Stars prospect Wyatt Johnston of the Windsor Spitfires is the 2021-22 recipient of the
Red Tilson Trophy
, awarded annually to the OHL's Most Outstanding Player during the regular season as voted by the writers and broadcasters that cover the league.

Johnston, 19, led the entire Canadian Hockey League (CHL) with 124 points (46 goals, 78 assists) in 68 regular-season games and paced the OHL in points per game (1.82). He recorded the fifth-highest single season point total in Spitfires history behind Ernie Godden (153, 1980-81), Bill Bowler (135, 1994-95), Kelly Cain (133, 1987-88) and Blair Barnes (130, 1979-80), while his 46 goals were the most by a Spitfire since Steve Ott scored 50 in 2000-01.
The Toronto, Ontario native is the fourth player in Spitfires history to win the Red Tilson Trophy, and the first since Ryan Ellis in 2011 (also Ernie Godden in 1981 and Glenn Hall in 1951).

Johnston finished the regular season with 42 multi-point performances and had four games with four points or more. He's the first player since Jason Allison (1993-94 with London) to win the Red Tilson Trophy, Eddie Powers Memorial Trophy (league's top scorer) and the William Hanley Trophy (most sportsmanlike player) in the same season.
Selected in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft, Johnston has registered 154 points (58 goals, 96 assists) in 121 career regular-season games with the Spitfires. He signed a
three-year, entry-level contract
with the Stars on Sept. 28, 2021.
