The loss snapped their three-game winning streak and put a damper on their four-game road trip. Despite the defeat, the Stars still went 3-1 on the trip that included victories over Anaheim (twice) and San Jose, but they fell out of the second wild card with the loss combined with a Vegas victory earlier in the day. The Stars fell to 39-26-3, while the Kraken improved to 22-41-6.
Jake Oettinger got the start in net and finished with 25 saves on 28 shots. At the other end, Kraken goalie Chris Driedger stopped 29 of 30.
Dallas' power play was an eyesore and resulted in the game's first goal, a shorthanded tally from Jared McCann just 3:55 into the first period. The Stars had three power plays in all and couldn't convert on any of them.
That score held until the five-minute mark of the third, when Ryan Donato raced in on a breakaway and head faked Oettinger to double the lead.
John Klingberg gave the Stars life with a goal with five minutes remaining, but Yanni Gourde responded 2:13 later with yet another breakaway goal to make it 3-1. Karson Kuhlman added an empty-net goal in the closing seconds to give Seattle a 4-1 triumph.
