With the 47th overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, the Stars selected Logan Stankoven on Saturday from Kamloops of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The 5-foot-8, 170-pound center recorded 10 points (seven goals, three assists) in just six games with the Blazers during the 2020-21 campaign, and in 2019-20 ranked sixth among WHL rookies with 48 points (29 goals, 19 assists) in 59 appearances.

On the international stage, the Kamloops, British Columbia native represented Team Canada at the 2021 IIHF Under-18 World Championship, posting eight points (four goals, four assists) including the game-winning goal in the gold medal game.

Stankoven said he has a "never-back-down attitude" similar to Montreal Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher. "He never backs down," he said. "Doesn't matter how big the guy is. He battles hard to every whistle. There are similarities in my game, too. I'm not going to back down, step away or shy away from the toughness part of the game. It's never something I've been taught to shy away from. It's part of who I am and how I play. I'm going to stick with that and bring it with me moving forward."

"A never back down attitude"

Stankoven, 18, was named BC Hockey Under-18 Player of the Year in 2018-19 after pacing the league in goals (49), assists (52) and points (101) in 38 games with the Thompson Blazers U18 AAA team.
