Recap: Stars fall 2-1 to Blues in preseason opener on Monday
Tufte pots the Stars' lone goal, while Holtby and Oettinger shared duties in net
The Stars opened their 2021 preseason schedule with a 2-1 overtime loss to the St. Louis Blues at Enterprise Center on Monday. It marked the first of seven exhibition games for Dallas, and the first of two against St. Louis.
Riley Tufte opened the scoring with two minutes remaining in the first period when he buried a two-on-one rush with Stars 2020 first-round pick Mavrik Bourque.
Making his Stars debut, Braden Holtby started the game and finished with 15 saves on 16 shots in 40 minutes of work. Jake Oettinger took over at the start of the third period and turned aside 12 of 13.
'I thought the kids worked very hard'
St. Louis' Pavel Buchnevich evened the score with a power-play goal with 58.4 seconds remaining in the middle frame. Sam Anas netted the game-winning goal with 3:17 left in OT to give the Blues the win and improve their record to 2-0 in preseason play. The Stars will continue their preseason schedule on Wednesday against the Florida Panthers at American Airlines Center (7 p.m. CT).
