methot

The Dallas Stars were back on the ice for practice Tuesday and the biggest news to come out of it is that defenseman Marc Methot is on the verge of returning to the lineup.
"Unless he has a setback, he is good to go Friday," Stars coach Ken Hitchcock said of Methot.

Friday is the next game for the Stars, who will host the St. Louis Blues at American Airlines Center. If Methot plays, it will be just his second game since Nov. 6. He's missed 41 games this season due to a knee issue. Methot went out in early November, had arthroscopic knee surgery, returned January 4 for one game, and then went out again and has missed the last 15 games.
Methot began skating in late January and returned to full practices last week as he worked his way back from the injury. He should get in three good practices this week before Friday's game.
"I feel okay. It's been really long. I've never dealt with anything like this before, so it is just something I've had to be patient with," Methot said. "I'm here working my tail off every day, so I'm hoping that when I do come back, I'll be prepared and well-conditioned."
Methot will get back in the lineup for a team that has been on a strong run for almost two months. Since Dec. 21, the Stars are 15-6-1 and rank second in the NHL with 31 points during that stretch.

"The team has been playing great," Methot said. "Last game (6-0 loss to Vancouver), that happens. That's not something you've got to dwell on. The general play I have been watching from the stands has been really great. It takes pressure off me and enabling me to do all the rehab that I've been doing and getting healthy."
The defense pairs were mixed in Tuesday's practice, but Methot spent a lot of time skating with Stephen Johns. As for his role upon his return, Methot said anything would do; he just wants to be back to playing.
"I am willing to accept any role. I don't care what it is, whether it just be killing penalties and playing less minutes, it doesn't matter. I just want to help the team win. I am just excited to get back, and hopefully my return is sooner than later, so I can start helping out the team and feel like a hockey player again."
Chances are it is going to take Methot some time to get up to speed once he returns, and the Stars are hopeful he can be a key piece down the stretch.
"Under normal circumstances, he's a top-four defenseman. You are adding a free player now, and we realize it is going to take some time," said Hitchcock. "Our goal is that he is a top-four guy. It allows us to have lefty-righty (pairs on defense) going if we get it.
"We'll see how he looks game to game, but right now we need to get him in a game and see how he feels after the game. He's a minute-munching defenseman that plays against top players every shift, so that is a good sign for us. "

Hanzal to skate Wednesday and Thursday

Center Martin Hanzal did not practice Tuesday. Hitchcock said the plan was for Hanzal to take part in two of the three practice days this week and that Hanzal is scheduled to skate Wednesday and Thursday.
