But the Jets struck for five straight goals in the second to take control of the game. Dallas started the period on the power play, but Stars captain Jamie Benn took a hooking penalty to put the two sides at four-on-four. Ehlers took a drop pass from Byfuglien on the rush to tie the game 1-1 at the 49 second mark.
"The start of the second [period] was a power play, then take a penalty, and they got a four-on-four goal, and then it just kept coming from there," said Benn. "They are a good team, and we have to get up to their level."
The Jets had a chance to take the lead less than two minutes later, but Laine shot wide on a penalty shot at the 2:46 mark. The Jets took the lead at 6:33 of the second when Jack Roslovic skated around Benn in the neutral zone and set up Toby Enstrom, who scored from the right circle to make it a 2-1 game.
Mark Scheifele scored from the slot 88 seconds later with Winnipeg on its second power play of the game, and it was 3-1 Winnipeg.
Laine scored the next two goals, tallying from the slot at the 11:59 mark to extend the lead to 4-1 to end the night for Lehtonen, who was replaced by Bishop. Laine then scored from the right circle to push the lead to 5-1 at the 18:47 mark of the second.
Seguin scored off a blast from the slot 40 seconds later to cut the lead to 5-2 going into the third period. Radulov scored with 46.8 seconds left in the third to round out the scoring and make it a 5-3 final.
