Performance evaluation

Glendening turned out to be a very nice free agent signing because of the value for his cap hit. Playing beside Radek Faksa and Michael Raffl for much of the season, Glendening produced similar possession numbers that were less than stellar minus-17 in plus-minus (24th on the team) and minus-44.5 percent on puck possession. That said, he also had nine goals (eighth on the team) and led the Stars with a 58.7 percent faceoff winning percentage. Glendening averaged 14:07 in time on ice, including 2:13 shorthanded, which led all forwards.

Expectations for 2022-23

Glendening is a versatile forward who can help the Stars in a lot of ways as a wing or center on the third or fourth line. He's a value at $1.5 million, and he doesn't require a long-term contract commitment, so he really is a fantastic depth piece for Dallas.
Next season might be even more important for Glendening as the Stars will lose Raffl, Alexander Radulov and Vladislav Namestnikov from the forward group. The guess is Dallas will try to fill it in with young talent, and there's a very good chance that young talent could be playing with Glendening. That's a good thing. He's an intense competitor while still being a calming presence, and his ability to play a fast game in a defensive role could be very helpful. Bottom line, Glendening should be a pretty important piece in 2022-23 even if his time on ice slips a little.
