FRISCO, Texas --The Dallas Stars Hall of Fame Selection Committee announced today their election of Derian Hatcher and Bob Gaineyas the 2022 Class of the Dallas Stars Hall of Fame. Hatcher was selected as part of the Player Category and Gainey was selected as part of the Builder Category. In its inaugural year, the Dallas Stars Hall of Fame seeks to recognize players and/or staff members who have positively impacted the Dallas Stars franchise in such a way that their contributions cannot be overlooked.

Hatcher and Gainey will be officially inducted during Dallas Stars Hall of Fame Weekend from Oct. 29-30, 2022. The two-day celebration will begin with the Dallas Stars Hall of Fame Game presented by AT&T on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. against the New York Rangers. Both inductees will participate in the ceremonial puck drop prior to the game and take part in the official unveiling of the AT&T Hall of Fame Rotunda at American Airlines Center. The weekend will be capped off by the Dallas Stars Hall of Fame Induction Gala presented by Truist on Sunday, Oct. 30, which will honor the inductees and feature a live performance by a well-known musical artist. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Dallas Stars Foundation.

About Derian Hatcher
Selected eighth overall by the franchise in the 1990 NHL Draft, Hatcher wore the Stars sweater for 827 regular-season games over 12 seasons and registered 294 points (71-223=294). Hatcher was appointed team captain during the 1994-95 season and helped lead the Stars to unprecedented heights, culminating with the 1999 Stanley Cup and becoming the first American-born captain of a Stanley Cup winning team. Under his leadership, the team qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs on seven occasions (1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003) and made two appearances in the Stanley Cup Final (1999, 2000), along with capturing the Presidents' Trophy twice (1997-98, 1998-99) and winning six division championships (1996-97, 1997-98, 1998-99, 1999-2000, 2000-01, 2002-03).
He has the second-longest tenure of any defenseman in Stars history and his nine seasons as team captain are tied with current captain Jamie Benn for the longest captainship in the organization's history. Among all-time franchise leaders, his +88 plus/minus rating ranks fifth and his 827 regular-season games ranks seventh. Among defensemen in franchise history, he ranks first with 1,380 penalty minutes, and is tied for fourth in goals (71), while also ranking sixth in points (294) and assists (223). He appeared in 100 postseason games for the franchise, amassing 27 points (6-21=27) and 183 penalty minutes. Among postseason franchise leaders, he ranks third in penalty minutes (183) and sixth in games played (100).
The defenseman was named to the 2002-03 NHL Second All-Star Team and finished third in voting for the James Norris Memorial Trophy in 2002-03 as one of the league's top defensemen. He was also selected to represent the Stars at the 1997 NHL All Star Game. On the international stage, Hatcher represented the United States at two IIHF World Championships (1993, 2002), one World Cup (1996) and two Olympic Games (1998, 2006).
The native of Sterling Heights, Michigan, was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2010 alongside his brother and former Dallas Stars defenseman, Kevin.
About Bob Gainey
One of the most accomplished and decorated individuals in the history of the hockey, Gainey was part of the team's hockey operations department from 1990 - 2002. After the team relocated to Dallas, he guided the club to seven postseason berths (1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001) and two appearances in the Stanley Cup Final (1999, 2000), along with capturing the Presidents' Trophy on two occasions (1997-98, 1998-99) and winning five division championships (1996-97, 1997-98, 1998-99, 1999-2000, 2000-01).
When the franchise relocated to Dallas in 1993, he was serving as both the team's general manager and head coach before appointing Ken Hitchcock as head coach and stepping aside to solely focus on his role as GM during the 1995-96 season. Gainey was the chief architect behind assembling the core of players that would define the most successful era in franchise history, including the acquisitions of future Hockey Hall of Famers Ed Belfour, Brett Hull, Joe Nieuwendyk and Sergei Zubov. He was also responsible for drafting numerous players including Jamie Langenbrunner, Jere Lehtinen, Brenden Morrow, Steve Ott and Marty Turco.
Prior to his career in the Stars' front office, Gainey played 1,160 regular-season games over 16 NHL seasons as a member of the Montreal Canadiens, earning 501 points (239-262=501) and posting a +201 plus/minus rating. He qualified for the playoffs in all 16 seasons of his career; he won the Stanley Cup in four consecutive seasons from 1976-79 and was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy in 1979 as the most valuable player in the postseason. He added his fifth and final Stanley Cup as a player in 1986. Gainey was awarded the Frank J. Selke Trophy as the league's top defensive forward in four consecutive seasons from 1978-81 and was named an NHL All Star four times (1977, 1978, 1980, 1981).
The native of Peterborough, Ontario, was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1992, and his number 23 was retired by the Canadiens on Feb. 23, 2008.
About The Dallas Stars Hall of Fame
The Dallas Stars Hall of Fame recognizes players and/or staff members who have positively impacted the Dallas Stars Hockey Club in such a way that their contributions cannot be overlooked. The two categories of the Dallas Stars Hall of Fame are Player (Skater/Goaltender) and Builder (Executive Level Staff or Coach). A maximum of one Player and one Builder are eligible for selection in any election period and there is no requirement that the maximum of either category is reached in any given election period.
Players must demonstrate exceptional attributes in the areas of playing ability, sportsmanship, character and contributions to the Dallas Stars Hockey Club, while builders are evaluated on their demonstration of exceptional attributes in coaching, managerial or executive ability, or ability in another significant off-ice role, sportsmanship, character and contributions to the Dallas Stars Hockey Club and to the game of hockey in general.
Any player who had their number retired by the Dallas Stars Hockey Club received immediate inclusion into the Dallas Stars Hall of Fame without consideration by the Selection Committee. Similarly, all owners of the Dallas Stars Hockey Club received automatic induction as Builders without consideration by the Selection Committee.
