Wheatcroft, 20, ranks second in the Western Hockey League (WHL) in scoring with 101 points (46-55--101) in 64 games with the Prince George Cougars this season, trailing only Regina's Connor Bedard in that category. Wheatcroft also ranks third in the WHL in goals (46), shares ninth in assists (55) and leads all skaters in power-play tallies (22). He also shares first in overtime goals (3) and fifth in game winners (7).
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound forward recorded 11 goals and 27 points (11-16--27) over a 14-game point streak from Jan. 13-Feb. 14, which included five games with three points or more. He registered his first career hat trick (3-1--4) on Feb. 25 at Victoria and had a career-high five points (2-3--5) in a 6-3 victory over Kelowna on March 15.
Two weeks after being named the WHL's Player of the Week, Wheatcroft was named the league's Player of the Month for February, finishing the month with 12 goals and 28 points (12-16--28) in 12 games. Wheatcroft finished the month with three consecutive multi-point games with six goals and 11 points (6-5--11) over that span.
The Calgary, Alberta native has amassed 183 points (77-106--183) in 201 career regular-season games with Prince George, Winnipeg and Lethbridge. He made his WHL debut in the 2019-20 season with Lethbridge where he recorded 29 points (7-22--29) in 59 games. The following season, Wheatcroft earned 15 points (8-7--15) in 23 games with the Hurricanes. He split the 2021-22 campaign with Lethbridge and Winnipeg, earning 38 points (16-22--38) in 55 regular-season games. Wheatcroft also posted six points (1-5--6) in 15 WHL playoff games with Winnipeg in 2022.
