The Boston Bruins announced special events and initiatives for the Boston Bruins Centennial celebration. From content and storytelling to celebrations with fans, community and legacy programming and an exclusive merchandise collection, the Bruins' Centennial celebration is intended to unite fans, alumni and associates, celebrate the team's rich history and lay the groundwork for the next 100 years of Bruins hockey.
The celebration will commence Saturday, September 16 with the Boston Bruins Centennial Takeoff, a fashion-show style event where fans in attendance will be the first to see the club's all-new Centennial jerseys and merchandise collection in an exclusive setting inside the jetBlue hangar at Logan Airport.
At the start of the milestone season, the Bruins will also welcome more than 50 alumni as honored guests to participate in Heritage Homecoming Week, Oct. 10-13. Opening Night, presented by TD Bank, will include red carpet entrances and special appearances by members of championship teams and retired number alumni during a "Rafters Reunion" pregame ceremony ahead of the Bruins' Original Six season opener against the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday, October 11 at 7:30 p.m. The Bruins are also set to host a black-tie gala benefiting the Boston Bruins Foundation at the Fairmont Copley Plaza on Thursday, October 12.
"The Boston Bruins are an important part of the fabric of the City of Boston and we are excited and proud to be the first U.S. team in the National Hockey League to reach the centennial milestone," said Boston Bruins CEO and Alternate Governor Charlie Jacobs. "We look forward to celebrating this historic occasion with our fans, players, alumni, associates, the City of Boston and beyond."
"Honoring over 1,000 Bruins alumni will be a big part of our Centennial celebration," said Cam Neely, Boston Bruins President. "Our alumni are the lifeblood of this team. As a former player, I personally understand the honor and responsibility of wearing the
Spoked-B and I look forward to celebrating our alumni and their lasting impact on our club and city."
The first U.S.-based NHL club, and third club overall to reach the Centennial milestone, the Bruins will celebrate throughout the 2023-24 season and into the 2024-25 season with December 1, 2024, marking the 100th anniversary of the club's first-ever game against the Montreal Maroons (December 1, 1924).
