Damien Giroux

DALLAS --With its second and final pick -- acquired from the Washington Capitals in exchange for Tyler Graovac last summer -- of the fifth round (155th overall) in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, the Minnesota Wild selected center Damien Giroux from the Saginaw Spirit of the Ontario Hockey League.

Here's a look at Giroux's stats:
Height: 5-foot-9
Weight:177 lbs
Shoots: Left
Hometown: Sudbury, ON
2017-18 team: Saginaw Spirit
NHL Central Scouting Rank: 190 (North American skaters)
Scouting report:The diminutive Giroux has found success on the score sheet in his second year with Saginaw. He posted 43 points (19-24=43) and 18 penalty minutes in 68 games in 2017-18, tying for third on the club in assists and fourth in goals. He also posted 25 points (8-17=25) and 21 penalty minutes in 53 games during his first season with Saginaw in 2016-17.
The 18-year-old center will require quite a bit more development, but has also earned several accolades throughout the course of his career.
Most recently, he was a Great Northern Midget League champion and Player of the Year in the Northern Ontario Hockey Association in 2015-16. He was selected by Saginaw 44th overall in 2016. In four games with Saginaw in the 2018 playoffs, Giroux notched one assist and won 43 percent of face-offs.

Giroux is noted to play a 200-foot game and is effective in special teams scenarios. He is the fourth center the Wild has selected so far in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.
Andrew Brunette, Wild assistant general manager:"Hard worker. Competitive. Good skills with a good engine. Great leadership qualities. Very good head for the game. Competitive 200-foot player with offensive upside. Reliable in all three zones. Played big minutes as a 17-year-old in OHL against other teams' top lines."
