Eagles sit at eighth in Let's Play Hockey Class AA rankings

To prepare you for Hockey Day Minnesota 2017, Wild.com will be checking in on each of the high school teams participating in this year's festivities. Today, get to know the Eden Prairie boys hockey program.
The town
Eden Prairie, which sits on the Minnesota River southwest of Minneapolis, is one of the biggest suburbs in Minnesota. It's been named one of Money Magazine's best places to live every year since 2006, earning first place in 2010. Eden Prairie High School has the second-largest enrollment in the state.
The program
Eden Prairie has been consistently good for much of the past decade. With nine MSHSL State Tournament appearances -- and with a streak of three straight since 2014 -- the Eagles aren't strangers to the spotlight. The program owns two state titles, one in 2009 and the other in 2011. The Eagles came close to winning their third title last year, but lost in the championship game to conference rival Wayzata.
Players to watch
Senior Casey Mittelstadt owns 23 points in nine games this season, a team-best statistic, and is expected to be selected high in next year's NHL Draft. Senior Hunter Johannes is second on the Eagles with 14 assists, and senior Nick Wiencek has posted a solid .917 save percentage in the eight games he's started.
What to expect on Hockey Day Minnesota
Eden Prairie started the season 6-2-0 but has recorded two ties and two losses in its past four games for an overall record of 6-4-2. But with an offensive weapon like Mittelstadt, Eden Prairie might have the chance to hand Stillwater its first loss of the season. Outdoors, anything can happen.
