Team Blue will be led by longtime St. Louis Blues captain and U.S. Olympian David Backes, a native of Spring Lake Park who recently concluded a 15-year NHL career that spanned 965 games with three clubs.
Joining Backes on Team Blue, named for MSU alum and longtime former assistant coach Darren Blue, is Brooklyn Park's Tim Jackman, another NHLer who was the first former Maverick to be selected in the NHL Draft and the first to reach the National Hockey League. Jon Kalinski, a former Philadelphia Flyers, will also be on Team Blue.
Team Brose, named for legendary MSU men's coach Don Brose, will be captained by former Wild forward and White Bear Lake native Ryan Carter.
Other NHLers joining Carter on the Brose squad will be Casey Nelson, Steve Wagner, Grant Stevenson and Eriah Hayes.
In all, the 41-man alumni game will feature 28 Minnesota natives and five players who achieved All-American status during MSU's Division I era.
