Tonka GTK 1.14.19

In preparation for Hockey Day Minnesota 2019 presented by Wells Fargo, Wild.com will highlight each of the nine teams participating in this year's festivities Jan. 19 in Bemidji. Today, we take a look at the Minnetonka boys hockey team.

The town

Eight miles west of Minneapolis in Hennepin County sits Minnetonka, home to many large corporations such as United Health Care, Cargill, Carlos Companies and several others. Back in the mid-1960s when Interstate 494 was built through Minnetonka, large commercial developments soon came after. Minnetonka was incorporated as a city in 1968.

The team

Winning their first Minnesota State High School League title last spring, the Skippers are off to another impressive season with a 15-0-1 undefeated season so far. Balanced scoring, a stingy penalty kill and tight defense and goaltending have Minnetonka in prime position to repeat.

The matchup

Depending on Thursday's games, the Minnetonka-Andover winner could be the state's lone remaining undefeated team. In any case, Saturday's first clash is sure to provide some morning fireworks. Minnetonka averages 4.81 goals per game, while Andover scores 4.92 per contest. Both sides are tough to score against, too -- the Skippers are giving up just 1.25 goals against per game.

Players to Watch

Senior defensemen Grant Docter and Josh Luedtke both lead the Skippers with 25 points each. Senior goaltender Charlie Glockner has a .938 save percentage and 1.26 goals-against average in 16 games.
