Wild to honor Twins legend Joe Mauer Feb. 12 against Philadelphia

ST. PAUL -- The National Hockey League's (NHL) Minnesota Wild announced today the team will honor Joe Mauer on Tuesday, Feb. 12 when it hosts the Philadelphia Flyers at 7 p.m. on FOX Sports North and KFAN 100.3 FM.
Players will wear custom Joe Mauer No. 7 jerseys during pre-game warmups. The jerseys will be autographed by the respective Wild player and Mauer and auctioned to benefit Crescent Cove and the Minnesota Wild Foundation. Bidding for the jerseys will open the evening of Feb. 12 on the official

. The auction will close March 1. Mauer will take part in a ceremonial puck drop before the game and family members will announce Let's Play Hockey and make a This Is Our Ice contribution before the game.

Mauer announced his retirement on Nov. 15 after a 15-year career with the Minnesota Twins that saw him win an unprecedented three American League batting titles as a catcher, the 2009 American League MVP Award and earn six All-Star selections. One of the greatest players in Twins history, the Saint Paul, Minn., native finished his career with a .306 batting average and 2,123 hits in 1,858 games.
