MONTREAL -- The Canadiens selected forward Filip Mesar with the 26th overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft on Thursday night at the Bell Centre.

Mesar was the 20th-ranked prospect in NHL Central Scouting's final ranking of International skaters.
The 18-year-old winger registered 16 points (8 goals, 8 assists) in 37 games with HK Poprad in the Slovakian league this past season.

Mesar was the second Slovak picked by Montreal on the opening night of the Draft, joining countryman and top pick Juraj Slafkovsky.
Previous 26th overall selections by the Canadiens include Claude Lemieux (1983), Nikita Scherbak (2014) and Noah Juulsen (2015).
