MONTREAL -- Filip Mesar was selected 26th overall by the Canadiens on Thursday night at the Bell Centre.

Following his selection, Mesar spoke with reporters to comment on joining Montreal.
Here are a few highlights from his press conference:
Mesar on being picked by the Canadiens:
It's amazing for me. It's kind of a crazy night for Slovakia. I really like that. I really enjoyed that. With Juraj, to go to Montreal together, it will be easier to adapt. He's a really good friend. Everything is good now.

Mesar on his playing style:
I'm a very creative player. I have good skill, good skating, and I'm a fast player, but I need to improve my physicality a little bit and improve my play in the defensive zone. Power plays and creative plays, those are the best parts of my game.
Mesar on his friendship with Juraj Slafkovsky:
We've known each other since we were kids. We are really, really good friends. We went on vacation together this year. It's an amazing time to share one stage with him. I really like that. It will be good to be with one of my best friends in Montreal.

Mesar on playing center or wing at the NHL level:
When I was younger, I was still playing center, but I started to play wing over the last two years in Poprad. I'm more comfortable as a winger.
Mesar on sharing a special hug with Slafkovsky:
It feels amazing. I don't have any words. With Simon Nemec, we're three best friends who know each other very well.

Mesar on his intentions for next season:
I want to go to North America or maybe try a European league like the SHL or the Liiga, but I think the most interest is to come to North America.
Mesar on why Slafkovsky was the top pick:
I think Juraj is the best prepared player for the NHL right now. He's tall, strong and has a really good shot and good hockey sense. I think he needs to improve his first-step, but he's the best player in this Draft and deserved the first pick.
