"We touched on the Edmonton game a little bit, we watched video ... We did some good things in that game, obviously the result wasn't there, but there are definitely some things we can fix up," said veteran forward Matt Calvert. "We've got a big stretch coming up before we get four days off for Christmas and quite a bit of those are at home. We've got to come out with a better effort in front of our home crowd, get them involved earlier and have some fun with this before we get the break."
Through the first 31 games of the season, the Avalanche has been on the road for 19 matchups, nearly a third of those contests, and has had success with an 11-6-2 mark away from Pepsi Center.
Overall, Colorado has played the fewest home games in the NHL (12) and holds third place in the Central Division with 39 points and a 17-9-5 record.
"Obviously, we get pumped up to play at home, but I think we treat it pretty similar [on the road]. We're focused on our game plan, we're focused on our start," said Calvert. "I think that's a big thing. When we start hard usually we get the result at the end of the game, so we've got to really focus on our first few shifts next game in St. Louis."
Center Alexander Kerfoot missed Colorado's game against the Oilers with an upper-body injury and the 24-year-old center will also miss the game against the Blues.
"I don't know how long it's going to be, he's not going to play tomorrow," head coach Jared Bednar said of Kerfoot. "We're optimistic he'll be back short-term, we just don't know for sure."
Kerfoot skated with injured defensemen Conor Timmins (head) and Mark Barberio (upper body) before practice as all three players wore red, non-contact jerseys.
