It's easy to forget Alex DeBrincat is 21.
He's scored so many goals in his two short seasons in the league it's like he's been doing it for years. DeBrincat matched his rookie season total of 28 goals last game in just his 55th appearance of the season.
So what has been the most surprising or impressive thing about DeBrincat's lack of a sophomore slump?
"I think the positive I see is that last year was a little streaky for him and maybe he started this year a little streaky, but I feel like he's had a long stretch where he's played pretty well and produced relatively consistently," said Head Coach Jeremy Colliton. "That's been a big lift for our team. I think the power play helps that. Even when you're having trouble creating 5-on-5, you get a power play and all of the sudden you have some time and some space to make some plays. You gain some confidence from that. But as young as he is, pretty impressive he's been able to be as consistent as he has this year."
DeBrincat is riding a seven-game point streak and has five goals and seven assists in that span. He has 28 goals and 22 assists for a total of 50 points this season. 18 of those have come on the power play, including nine goals.
