As they prepare to make the No. 1 pick on Wednesday night, Blackhawks General Manager Kyle Davidson and the Blackhawks hockey operations staff will now focus on their approach for the overall draft. With 11 picks in total between all seven rounds, Davidson believes they are in a comfortable spot.

The important thing they want to aim for on the draft board is placing the right rankings that can help them throughout the two days.

"The approach is just getting the rankings right, and how we feel really comfortable with them, and I think we feel that we're at that spot," Davidson said. "Then from there, the options that are presented to us, I think just fall into in the line with whatever's next up on the board."

After a few trades to claim a majority of their selections, Chicago holds a total of six picks in the first two rounds alone. These picks could offer a wide range of talented players within the top 60 selection.

While Davidson doesn't oppose the idea of a trade for those picks, he also knows they can acquire more impactful players to support their prospect pool as well. Now, this draft can allow him to capitalize on his added assets.

"Anytime that you're in a position to add significant talent to the organization, that's the exciting part of this," Davidson said. "That's the point of what we're trying to do is add talent, and you need draft currency to do that, and we've got it. So, it's very exciting to start capitalizing on some of the assets."

However, the team's draft philosophy doesn't revolve around a specific playing style that they are looking for. They want to focus on what player could make a bigger impact on the ice for the franchise in the future.

"There's only a certain number of players out of each draft that are going to make the NHL and have significant careers and we want to put our name and logo on as many of those players," Davidson said. "So, trying to pick and choose what a player might look like or style they might play, it might be a little bit of a dangerous game. Our goal is just to find as many NHL players and then see where they fit once they are further along in their development."

One of the ways they can do this is with their first overall selection with a projected player who can be a potential cornerstone for a franchise.

Although, it's difficult to know how a player can handle the NHL level until they hit the ice, Davidson knows this prospect can create success for the franchise throughout his career. With some growth and development, Davidson feels it it will work in their favor.

"You don't want to assume anything, but we feel pretty darn good about the type of player we'll be able to acquire with first overall," Davidson said. "So ideally, it is one of those cornerstone pieces with many days of success ahead, but we're not going to take anything for granted. We're going to put that player in the best situation of grow, develop and succeed and hopefully it all works out the way we want it to."
