NEWS: Doug Wilson Elected to Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2020

Doug Wilson is headed to the Hockey Hall of Fame.

On Wednesday, the 16-year NHL veteran was elected to the 2020 induction class by the 18-member Hockey Hall of Fame Selection Committee. Wilson's selection comes in his 24th year of Hall of Fame eligibility.

Wilson, a 1977 first-round pick of the Blackhawks (No. 6 overall), played 14 of his 16 NHL seasons with the Blackhawks with 779 points in 938 games played. His 225 goals and 779 assists are both franchise records for defensemen, while holding top-10 spots all time in games played (9th), assists (4th) and points (7th).

Wilson took home the 1981-82 Norris Memorial Trophy as the league's top defenseman, one of only four Chicago defensemen to ever win the award (Pierre Pilote, Chris Chelios and Duncan Keith).

After the 1990-91 campaign, Wilson was traded to the San Jose Sharks ahead of their first season, where the defenseman finished the final two seasons of his career. He currently serves as the General Manager of the Sharks, a role he's held since 2003.

The 2020 Hockey Hall of Fame Induction Celebration is tentatively scheduled for Monday, November 16th in Toronto.
