The Blackhawks earned their second-straight win on Friday, defeating the Detroit Red Wings in overtime at their home opener. Max Domi scored the overtime game winner, the fourth such goal in his career. Andreas Athanasiou got the Blackhawks on the board, scoring first on a penalty shot. Sam Lafferty registered two assists which gave him multi-point efforts in consecutive games (2G, 3A). Connor Murphy scored his second career shorthanded goal. Philipp Kurashev scored his first goal of the season, giving him three points in four games (1G, 2A).

VS. SEATTLE

Chicago went 1-1-1 last season in the Kraken's inaugural year, securing points in their last two games against them. Colin Blackwell was selected by Seattle in the Expansion Draft on July 21, 2021 before being traded to Toronto. PENALTY BIG SHOT

Andreas Athanasiou became the first player in franchise history to score his first career goal with Chicago on a penalty shot. He became the fifth player in franchise history to score a penalty-shot goal in a regular-season game against Detroit, following Jonathan Toews (Dec. 30, 2011), Dustin Byfuglien (April 11, 2009), Denis Savard (Dec. 15, 1985) and Paul Thompson (Jan. 1, 1936). COMEBACK KIDS

Philipp Kurashev and Connor Murphy scored third-period goals as the Blackhawks erased a 3-1 deficit and Max Domi completed the comeback with the overtime winner. Chicago recorded a multi-goal comeback win in its home opener for the second time in franchise history, following Oct. 6, 2007 (4-3 SO W vs. DET). The Blackhawks recorded a multi-goal comeback win in consecutive regular-season games for the third time in franchise history, following Dec. 17-20, 1989 and Dec. 13-16, 1945. Chicago also achieved the feat during the 1992 Stanley Cup Playoffs (Game 2-3 of CF).

LONG STORY SHORTHANDED

Sam Lafferty (2G, 1A) became the seventh Blackhawks player since 1933-34 (when goals by type officially began being tracked) to score two shorthanded goals in a single period on Oct. 15 at SJS, joining Rene Bourque (Feb. 28, 2008), Patrick Sharp (Nov. 3, 2007), Steve Sullivan (Jan. 26, 2001), Rick Paterson (Jan. 16, 1985), Chico Maki (Dec. 9, 1970) and Pep Kelly (Dec. 26, 1940). Those two shorthanded goals for Lafferty were the first of his career.
