Blue Jackets announce return of Learn to Play program

The Columbus Blue Jackets have announced the return of the club's Learn to Play program, which provides first-time hockey participants, between 5-8 years of age, free head-to-toe equipment, age-appropriate instruction and certified coaching led by former Blue Jacket Andrew Cassels. The local program, conducted in partnership with the National Hockey League and National Hockey League Players' Association, consists of six on-ice sessions over the course of six consecutive weeks.
Registration for spring and summer sessions opens Tuesday, February 5 at noon. Registration information, including eligibility requirements, may be found at www.BlueJackets.com/LearnToPlay.

Since its introduction in 2017, over 650 kids have graduated from the Learn to Play program. This year will feature three spring sessions and four summer sessions to provide the opportunity for 400 new kids to participate. Learn to Play is open to boys and girls who possess the ability to skate but have not yet participated in any introductory or organized hockey programs. In an effort to reduce cost barriers associated with taking up the sport, each participant will be given to keep a complete set of new equipment valued at approximately $500.
The six-week program costs $150 per child for Columbus-area sessions and $125 per child for the five-week session at NTPRD Chiller in Springfield.
