BOSTON -The B's had a strong Saturday, with Linus Ullmark earning a 21-save shutout in a 4-0 win over the Philadelphia Flyers at TD Garden int he club's third preseason contest.
"It's nice that we got the win," said coach Jim Montgomery. "It's nice that our goaltender played fantastic, because I thought we weren't that good for the first 30 minutes, and then he allowed us the timing to gain our legs."

Quite A Pair

Marc McLaughlin made his mark, earning himself the first two goals for the B's. The first came in the second period to give the B's a 1-0 lead when Jack Ahcan was able to take his time on the power play, setting up a shot from the point that the duo had discussed beforehand.
"I just saw Jack who had a lot of time. We talked about that before that game, that he was gonna try to pass one down there and find my stick and that worked perfect, so glad we talked about it," said McLaughlin.
His second goal was a scrum on the side of the net, with McLaughlin ultimately winning the fight to put Boston up, 2-0 at 11:55 of the third. "I think I was in the right areas in front of the net today," said McLaughlin. "I think that plays into my game, getting in front of the net, getting shots off, just being a big body, so I was happy with that."
Moving forward, the Boston College grad is focusing on the details of his game.
"Details are going to separate me and allow me to make this team," said McLaughlin. "So I've really been honing in on that. I think I can still make strides with that and I'm really just trying to focus on that, do film and everything, because I'm gunning for a fourth line position, and that's details, that's making the right play."

McLaughlin speaks with media after scoring twice

After McLaughlin netted his two, John Beecher stepped up for his pair. The 2019 first-round draft pick admitted to having to shake off a few nerves before stepping out on the ice on Saturday. "First game in TD Garden with the Bruins sweater, I think if you're not nervous, then you've got bigger issues," said Beecher.
Luckily for the 21-year-old, the nerves didn't stop him from finding his groove come the third period. Beecher's first goal was a deflection off a shot from Derek Forbort that put the B's up, 3-0, with 4:37 remaining, and his second being a empty netter with 2:48 left to make it 4-0.
"I think coming out of the second period I was pretty - not necessarily upset but just wanted more out of myself," said Beecher. "I think right from my first shift in the third period, I kind of turned it up a bit and from there it just kind of led, so I was happy with that."
The forward is looking to take what he's learned during camp and put it into action to close out the preseason. "I think the biggest thing, just systematically, where to be at the right times in the right spots. It's extremely fast out there once you make it to this level, and guys don't make many mistakes, so if you're out of position just for a second, then they'll find that little lane," said Beecher. "I think that's been the biggest lesson for me."

Injury Updates

Fabian Lysell left the game early in the second period and did not return after he was hit by surprise into the boards by Flyers defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen. Taylor Hall also did not return after the second period, but it was unclear what caused the injury.
Both are said to be minor injuries, requiring a day or two of rest. "I don't have confirmation exactly what it is, but they're both minor," said Montgomery. "They might miss a day or two of practice, that would be max."
With Lysell, there was relief with the outcome. "We were fearful that it was his shoulder, but thankfully it's not," said Montgomery, while also noting Lysell's skill before the injury. "The first 10 minutes I thought he was the best player on the ice in the game...a lot of good things for him to grow his confidence from as a pro. We'd like to play him at least one more game."
The B's close out the pre season next week with two on the road (at the Devils on Monday, and at the Rangers on Wednesday) before finishing it off at home against the Devils at TD Garden on Saturday night.
