BOSTON - The National Hockey League announced today, April 1, that Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand has been named the NHL second star for the month of March.
Marchand skated in 15 games, recording 10 goals (T-4th, NHL) and 16 assists (2nd, NHL) for 26 points (2nd, NHL) with a plus-four rating. The 5-foot-9, 181-pound forward also led the league with four game-winning goals, including an NHL-best three overtime goals. He recorded his third career hat trick in the team's 6-5 win against Detroit on March 6. Marchand posted points in 12 of 15 games, including nine multi-point games, to help lead the Bruins to an 11-2-3 record in the month of March, tied for the most points (25) in the league.
In his ninth NHL season, all with the Bruins, the 29-year-old Halifax, Nova Scotia native leads the team in scoring with 34 goals and 50 assists for 84 points in 63 games. His 1.33 points per game is tied for the league lead while his plus-33 rating ranks third in the NHL.
