Girls Hockey Day was created in 2017 with the goal to promote growth, encourage participation, and celebrate girls' hockey and the athletes who compete in it. Hundreds of hockey players across New England will participate in Monday's event, with all ages and skill levels included. The one-hour clinics, which run from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m., will feature Learn to Play public skates, skills clinics and ice sessions for teams.
Team USA Olympian Haley Skarupawill be in attendance to help facilitate Girls Hockey Day. Skarupa, a Rockville, Maryland native and Boston College alum has won three Women's World Championship gold medals and an Olympic gold medal at the Pyeongchang games in 2018.
Additionally, Bruins alumni and NESN host Andrew Raycroft will be on hand from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. to help facilitate clinics. Boston Bruins Player Development and Scouting Assistant Danielle Marmer will also run a skills clinic beginning at 6 p.m. with the New England Wildcats Hockey, followed by another skills clinic with Duxbury Girls Hockey beginning at 7 p.m.
Wasabi Technologies has donated $10,000 to the Good Sports: She Who Plays program, an initiative that provides $5 million in brand new sports equipment, apparel and footwear to girls in low-income communities across the United States. An honorary check presentation will be held at 5:15 p.m.
