BOSTON -On Thursday, November 25, Charlie McAvoy carried on a Boston Bruins' annual tradition by donating and delivering hundreds of pies to local organizations around Boston on Thanksgiving.

Additionally, the 23-year-old defenseman also purchased and donated more than 300 winter hats to be distributed among the shelters, which included the New England Center and Home for Veterans, St. Francis House, Pine Street Inn, Haley's House and The Home For Little Wanderers.
"Giving back to the community in Boston, it gives you some perspective," said McAvoy. "On a day like today, it makes you even more thankful for what you have. We have so many amazing people. Amazing volunteers, people with gigantic hearts. Overall, it was a great day today and I was really happy to be a part of it."
McAvoy also took part in a holiday turkey carving at Pine Street Inn with newly-elected Boston Mayor Michelle Wu.
"It was a great morning lifting up the incredible work of the Pine Street Inn alongside Senator Ed Markey, Representative Aaron Michlewitz, and the Boston Bruins' own Charlie McAvoy," said Wu. "I'm thankful for so many community partners always coming together to serve our city and work towards a Boston for everyone."

McAvoy carries on Thanksgiving pie delivery tradition

Table Talk Pies and Hockey Cares Inc. provided the pies for this year's delivery, while McAvoy partnered with Operation Hat Trick and '47 for his winter hat donation to the local shelters.
Operation Hat Trick merchandise can be purchased in the ProShop, powered by '47, and online at BostonProShop.com, with proceeds from those sales providing financial assistance to support the recovery of wounded service members and veterans, and fill gaps in care that are not covered by other programs or agencies.
"We're grateful to have everyone here, between Representative Aaron Michlewitz and the Mayor, Senator Ed Markey- but Charlie, it was really lovely to have him here," said Lyndia Downie, President and Executive Director of Pine Street Inn. "He did a great job on the turkey. He brought some pies and some Bruins hats, which will be really a big hit, I can tell you now. We really loved to have him here, especially after last night."
This year marks the 13th consecutive season that a Bruins player has donated and delivered pies on Thanksgiving. The tradition initially started with
Aaron Ward
donating turkeys in 2008 and has since been carried on by former Bruins captain Zdeno Chara(2018-2020), Matt Beleskey(2015-17), Gregory Campbell(2010-14), and Dennis Wideman (2009).
