Locmeils is described as "a shooter type in the middle who scored quite a few goals this year in Swedish juniors," by Bruins Associate Director of Amateur Scouting Ryan Nadeau. He appeared in 44 games for Lulea HF J20 of the J20 Swedish Hockey League where he had 18 goals and 16 assists for 24 points. Locmeils also represented Latvia at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championships, where he had one goal in the five games played.
Locmeils told Maxim Garashchuk from NationalTeamsOfIceHockey.com that he started skating at the age of 2. "My father used to play hockey, and when I was two years old, he took me with him and I would skate on the ice he skated on," said Locmeils. "That is how my hockey career began."
As far as where Locmeils is headed in the next year or so, the options are open. "I think he's in Lulea again next year," said Nadeau. "Then could veer from there in terms of where he ends up after that."
The left-shot center is just the fifth Latvian ever drafted by Boston, joining Sergei Zholtok (third round, 55th overall) and Grigori Panteleev (sixth round, 136th) - both selected in 1992 - Georgijs Pujacs (ninth round, 264th) in 1999, and Martin Karsums (second round, 64th overall - one pick after David Krejci) in 2004.
