"Boston was my favorite team growing up," said Edward, who named Zdeno Chara and Brad Marchand as his favorite Bruins. "It's exciting to be drafted by such a good franchise."
Edward said he grew up playing hockey, but it wasn't until the past few years that he was considered a high-end NHL Draft prospect. "I started playing at a young age, but I didn't play at a high level and was never touted as a top player until just the recent couple of years," said Edward.
The 18-year-old defenseman spent the 2021-22 season with the London Knights of the OHL, a season which he enjoyed. "I think I'm with the best business in junior hockey," said Edward. "I think I have a lot of potential, and I'm really happy I'm with them so they can help me get there."
Edward played in 54 games for the Knights, where he recorded six assists. He also spent time with the York Simcoe Express U16 AAA team in the ETAHL, recording 12 goals and 18 assists for 30 points in 33 games. The Ontario native is looking forward to his next season with the Knights, after a Game 7 elimination this spring.
"I think losing in Game 7 is going to motivate a lot next year," said Edward. "We have a good team all the way around, so having experienced that Game 7 loss early in our careers is going to help us a lot."
As for what he is working on, he said that trying to define his game is most important. "I think that I still need to define my game," said Edward. "I think I'm someone who came into the hockey world later than a lot of players, so I still have that ability to polish my game over the next few seasons in London and just development strength and speed."
Bruins Associate Director of Amateur Scouting Ryan Nadeau is looking for similar things from Edward, saying "his game has really rounded out and we're expecting a big progression for him next year."
