NASHVILLE -The National Hockey League announced today, June 26, that Boston Bruins head coachJim Montgomery has won the 2023 Jack Adams award, given annually to the coach who has contributed the most to his team's success as voted on by the National Hockey League Broadcasters Association.

This is the first time Montgomery has been awarded the Jack Adams.

In his first season in Boston, Montgomery helped lead the Bruins to the Presidents' Trophy, awarded annually to the team with the most points at the end of the regular season. The Bruins finished the regular season with a 65-12-5 record for 135 points, setting new NHL records for single-season points and wins.

In addition to leading the league in points and wins, the Bruins also ranked first in the NHL in regulation wins (54), road wins (31), goals allowed per game (2.12), penalty kill percentage (87.3) and goal differential (plus-128).

As a first-year coach with the team, Montgomery led the Bruins to become the fastest team in NHL history to reach 100 points and 50 wins. With Montgomery behind the bench at TD Garden, the Bruins set a new NHL record with 14 straight home victories to start the season.

Additionally, he was named the Atlantic Division head coach for the 2023 All-Star Game.

With 65 wins, Montgomery now holds the NHL record for most wins by a coach in his first season with a team, previously held by Mike Babcock, who won 58 games with the Detroit Red Wings in 2005-06.

Under his guidance, Bruins goaltenders Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman were the recipients of the William M. Jennings Trophy, presented annually to the goaltenders who play a minimum of 25 games for the team allowing the fewest goals during the regular season. This season, Boston allowed just 177 goals for an NHL-best average of 2.12 goals per game.
