Linus Ullmark Named Finalist For 2023 Vezina Trophy

BOSTON -The National Hockey League announced today, May 11, that Boston Bruins goaltender Linus Ullmarkhas been named a finalist for the 2023 Vezina Trophy, given annually to the goalkeeper adjudged to be the best at this position as voted by the general managers of all NHL clubs.

This is the first time Ullmark has been named a finalist for the award.

In 49 games this season, the 6-foot-5, 212-pound goaltender was 40-6-1 with a 1.89 goals-against average, .938 save percentage and two shutouts. He led the NHL in wins, goals against average and save percentage.

The 29-year-old allowed just two or fewer goals in 36 of his 49 total appearances this season (73.5 percent).

In his 49th and final game of the season, Ullmark became the fastest goaltender in NHL history to reach the 40-win milestone. This win also tied a franchise record for most wins in one season (Pete Peeters,63 GP in 1982-83).

On February 25, he became the 13th goaltender in League history and first in franchise history to score a regular-season goal in the team's 3-1 victory against the Vancouver Canucks.

Just three days later, February 28, Ullmark recorded a career-high and franchise-record of 54 saves in the team's 4-3 overtime win against the Calgary Flames.

Ullmark and teammate Jeremy Swaymansecured Boston the 2022-23 William M. Jennings Trophy, presented annually to the goaltenders who play a minimum of 25 games for the team allowing the fewest goals during the regular season.

With a win, Ullmark would become the fourth goaltender in Bruins history to receive the Vezina Trophy. Tuukka Rask (2014), Tim Thomas (2011, 2009) and Pete Peeters (1983) are previous winners for Boston.
