BostonBruins.com - Brad Marchand was named to the NHL's First All-Star Team on Tuesday night during the virtual NHL Awards ceremony, marking the second time he has been selected as the league's top left wing. Marchand also made the First Team in 2016-17 and was a Second All-Star Team selection in both 2018-19 and 2019-20.
The 12-year NHL veteran collected a team-high 69 points and 29 goals in just 53 games during the 2020-21 campaign, which came on the heels of sports hernia surgery following last season. Despite a disrupted offseason focused on rehab and recovery, Marchand still managed to produce the highest point per game mark of his career (1.30).

Marchand also placed fifth in the Hart Trophy voting behind Edmonton's Connor McDavid (the second unanimous winner in league history, joining Wayne Gretzky), Toronto's Auston Matthews, Colorado's Nathan MacKinnon, and Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby. The fifth-place finish tied the highest of Marchand's career (2018-19) and is his fourth top-10 finish in the last five seasons.
The 33-year-old also came in ninth in the Selke Trophy voting for the second straight year, marking the ninth time in his career that he has received votes. His longtime linemate, Patrice Bergeron - a record-tying, four-time winner - came in second for the third time.
In other awards voting, Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy placed fifth for the Norris Trophy, the first top-five finish of his career (he was 10th last season). The blue liner received two first-place votes after taking the reins as Boston's top defender in 2020-21, finishing behind the Rangers' Adam Fox, Colorado's Cale Makar, Tampa's Victor Hedman, and Carolina's Dougie Hamilton.
McAvoy led the Bruins in time on ice, averaging 26:39 per game, in his fourth full season with the Black & Gold, while picking up 30 points (five goals, 25 assists) - two shy of his career high - in just 51 games.
The Long Beach, New York, native was sixth among defensemen in the NHL All-Star voting with 99 points. David Pastrnak was fifth among right wings (four points) in the All-Star balloting and received one fifth-place vote for the Hart Trophy, good for a tie for 19th.
Bruins defenseman Jakub Zboril received one vote for the NHL All-Rookie Team.
