Need to Know: 2021 NHL Expansion Draft

BostonBruins.com - For the second time in the last four years, the National Hockey League is set to welcome a new team into the mix as the Seattle Kraken get set to make their debut this fall as the league's 32nd franchise.
The Kraken will begin to craft their team on Wednesday night when general manager Ron Francis makes his picks during the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft (8 p.m. ET on ESPN 2).
The leagues' existing clubs - with the exception of Vegas - submitted their protected lists on Sunday and the Bruins opted for the model that shielded seven forwards, three defensemen, and one goalie - just as they did in 2017 for the Golden Knights' Expansion Draft when they lost defenseman Colin Miller.

The Bruins' protected list is as follows:
FORWARDS: Patrice Bergeron, Charlie Coyle, Jake DeBrusk, Trent Frederic, Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak, and Craig Smith.
DEFENSEMEN: Brandon Carlo, Matt Grzelcyk, and Charlie McAvoy.
GOALIE: Daniel Vladar.
The Bruins' players/free agents available to Seattle are:
FORWARDS:Anton Blidh, Paul Carey (UFA), Peter Cehlarik, Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson, Taylor Hall (UFA), Cameron Hughes, Ondrej Kase, Alex Khokhlachev, Joonna Koppanen, David Krejci (UFA), Karson Kuhlman, Sean Kuraly (UFA), Curtis Lazar, Greg McKegg (UFA), Nick Ritchie, Zach Senyshyn, and Chris Wagner.
DEFENSEMEN:Linus Arnesson, Connor Clifton, Steven Kampfer (UFA), Jeremy Lauzon, Kevan Miller, John Moore, Mike Reilly (UFA), Jarred Tinordi (UFA), and Jakub Zboril.

All NHL teams must meet the following minimum requirements regarding players exposed for selection in the draft
- One defenseman who is a) under contract in 2021-22 and b) played in at least 40 NHL games the prior season or played in at least 70 NHL games in the prior two seasons. - Two forwards who are a) under contract in 2021-22 and b) played at least 40 NHL games the prior season or played in at least 70 NHL games in the prior two seasons. - One goalie who is under contract in 2021-22 or will be a restricted free agent at the end of his current contract immediately prior to 2021-22. If a team elects to make a restricted free agent goalie available to meet this requirement, that goalie must have received his qualifying offer prior to the submission of the team's protected list. - Players with potential career-ending injuries who have missed more than the previous 60 consecutive games (or who otherwise have been confirmed to have a career-threatening injury) may not be used to satisfy a team's player exposure requirements unless approval is received from the NHL. Such players also may be deemed exempt from selection.
