UNIONDALE, N.Y. - The Bruins will hit the quarter mark of their season on Saturday night as they aim for their sixth consecutive win as they visit the New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum. Boston also carries a 10-game point streak into the contest.

"I like that we're finding ways to win, get points, stay in games, come back when we need to," Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said when asked to assess his 10-1-2 squad to this point in the season. "What we haven't been able to do is to extend leads, to give ourselves some easier finishing nights…that's where we could be a little bit better. Obviously our 5-on-5 scoring, something we talk about a lot.
"We're gonna continue to work on that, address the areas where you can do that, how you can get a little better there. But all in all, I think we like where we are. We've played good, solid Bruins hockey, played to our identity, built some young players into the mix here that are doing well for us.
"Haven't relied on one particular area of the game. Our special teams have obviously been solid, goaltending, team defense. But we've also had timely scoring and we're starting to get it spread out a little more."

Moore Opportunity

John Moore will make his season debut, subbing in for Connor Clifton alongside Brandon Carlo on Boston's second pair. The veteran blue liner has played just one game in the last 11 months, suiting up for Game 3 of the B's second-round playoff series against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Aug. 26. Before that, the 30-year-old had not played since March 10 in Philadelphia, the final game before the COVID-19 shutdown.
"It's something we've considered with the back-to-back," said Cassidy. "Cliffy has had a lot of rest when he was out for [Matt Grzelcyk], but it gets Johnny in a game. He's been working hard. We feel tonight is a good night to do it and we'll go from there."
Cassidy has appreciated Moore's professionalism over the past couple of seasons as his playing time has become less frequent. Moore played 61 regular-season games and 10 playoff contests during his first Black & Gold campaign in 2018-19 but suited up for just 24 games last season.
"I try to talk to John as much as possible, without being that coach that's over there every day like, 'Stay ready, stay ready.' I think as a player at his juncture, a true pro, they don't want to hear that from the coach every day when they're doing everything they can to stay ready," said Cassidy. "I just try to remind him a little bit of what's necessary, how the team is playing, what he can do to help us when he gets in there, ask him how he's doing personally a little bit more than maybe a young guy.
"We appreciate his professionalism and it's one of those things that goes on behind the scenes that not many people know, but he's a really good pro and a real popular teammate."
Tuukka Rask will make the start between the pipes. No changes are expected up front.

Opposing View

The Islanders handed the Bruins their lone regulation loss of the season with a 1-0 win at Nassau on Jan. 18 in the first game of the season series, snapping the B's 10-game point streak against the Isles. That setback also snapped the B's 10-game win streak in New York, with Boston now 13-2-0 in its last 15 road games of this series.
Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored the game's only goal and Semyon Varlamov earned the shutout as Boston outshot the Islanders by a 27-17 margin.
"I thought we were the better team for most of the night, especially the start," said Cassidy. "We came in and had a really good first period. If I remember, I think [David] Krejci ripped one off the bar…we had some really good looks early to get the lead.
"That's one of the keys with the Islanders if you can make them play from behind, I think it's an advantage to your team. The game became a lot more tilted to even…two good defensive teams that were not going to give up a lot…I suspect that's what we'll see again tonight."
The Isles, coming off a 4-3 shootout loss to Pittsburgh on Thursday, are 5-4-3 (fourth in the East Division with 13 points) and enter Saturday's game on a five-game point streak. Mathew Barzal paces the team with 13 points and five goals - Jordan Eberle also has five - in 12 games.
Per the Islanders, forward Anthony Beauvillier will not play due to injury.

By The Numbers

  • Brad Marchand is two goals short of his 300th NHL goal, while Krejci is four points shy of his 700th NHL point.
  • Rask is in the midst of a six-game point streak (5-0-1). All of Rask's decisions this season have been by one goal, including a 5-1 mark in overtime or shootout.
  • The Bruins and Islanders are meeting for the 174th time in their histories with the B's having a 92-55-21-5 record and 585-488 scoring advantage in those games.
  • The Bruins are 45-31-10-2 vs. the Islanders all-time on the road with a 290-260 scoring edge in those 88 contests.
