BOSTON - The Bruins have not had many chances for revenge this season.
With just four regulations losses - and two more in the shootout - Boston really hasn't needed it. But the Bruins will get a shot at it on Monday night as the Florida Panthers visit TD Garden as one of only a handful of teams to take down the Black & Gold thus far.

"We know what kind of team they are and how they play," said Hampus Lindholm. "But at the end of the day, and all season, it's been more about us. I think we know the stuff that we can improve on as of late here and keep building it. It's gonna be a long year so we need to talk about that process and keep learning from each game."
The Bruins have won three of their last four but have not been overly pleased with their overall efforts during the first three games of the homestand (2-0-1). With two games at TD Garden, followed a quick trip to New Jersey on Friday night, still on the docket ahead of the Christmas break, Boston is aiming to shore up their game in a number of areas.
"At the end of the day, it's about what we do out there as individuals and what we're going to accomplish here as a team," said Lindholm. "If we do all that, it will usually take care of itself out there. It's gonna be a fun challenge, a good team, we'll have to rise up to the challenge here."
Coach Jim Montgomery singled out the Bruins' penalty troubles as one of the larger areas of focus. Since December 3, Boston has taken 32 penalties, which is the fourth most in the NHL over that time. Overall, the Bruins have been assessed 138 penalties this season, the 10th most in the league.
"We do think it can be improved and it has to be improved," said Montgomery. "It's because when we check with our legs first, we don't take a lot of penalties. There's a lot of stick infractions in the offensive zone that we would like to eliminate. We don't get scored on when it's those instigator penalties when you're defending a teammate or when you're eliminating a scoring chance at the goal mouth, you kill those off. That's what we're looking at."

Smith Clears Waivers

Craig Smith was placed on waivers on Sunday afternoon, but after clearing the 2 p.m. deadline on Monday - according to media reports - he will be in the lineup against the Panthers. Montgomery felt that the winger, who has suited up for 17 games thus far in 2022-23, played one of his most effective contests of the season in Saturday's matinee against Columbus.
"First of all, the roster manipulation is something that we needed to do, just a safe card and cap situations," Montgomery said of Smith going on waivers. "All I know is working with [Bruins GM] Don Sweeney, when he says this what we need to do, I know he's done his homework and I listen to him thoroughly about anything like that.
"Smitty played one of his best games of the year last game. We're not expecting to make any changes to the lineup tonight. We have to be patient on that because of the waiver process."

Wait, There's More

  • Lindholm was placed on the top power-play unit for Saturday's contest against Columbus, while Charlie McAvoy shifted to the second unit as Montgomery looked for create a spark for a man advantage that he felt was lacking a bit of late. "We just thought that the power play had gotten a little stale the last three or four games," said Montgomery. "Sometimes, you can do one of two things - you can put players in different spots on the same unit to kind of give the creative side of the brain going or you can switch a player. All of a sudden, everyone gets…I don't know if excitement is the right word, but you get the creative juice flowing. And that's all it was. It wasn't because we think Lindholm's better on the first unit or Charlie's better on the second unit. It was just to give all five players on both units different blood."
  • The Panthers have dropped four of their last seven games, though they are fresh off a 4-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night in Newark. Florida (15-13-4, 34 points) is three points back of the Islanders for the East's second Wild Card spot. I think the Panthers are playing real good hockey," said Montgomery. "I know they're a little beat up still. I don't know if they've ever been healthy. They're transitioning offensively extremely well. Their offensive and defensive numbers at 5-on-5 are excellent."
  • Per coach Paul Maurice via Florida's Twitter feed, Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov (6-16-22 in 25 games) is considered day-to-day, while defenseman Radko Gudas will be a game-time decision. Forward Colin White is expected to return to the lineup with Spencer Knight between the pipes.
