BOSTON - The National Hockey League announced today, October 15, that Boston Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron has been named the NHL First Star of the Week for the week ending October 14.
Bergeron helped propel the Bruins to three wins in three games this week, improving the team's record to 4-1-0 (8 points), good for second place in the Atlantic Division. The Bruins centerman led the NHL in scoring this week with four goals and five assists for nine points with a plus-five rating. He began his week by recording his fourth career hat trick in the home opener against the Ottawa Senators on Monday, October 8. It was the sixth time in franchise history that a Bruins player has scored a hat trick in the home opener, with Bergeron joining Carson Cooper (1926-27), Phil Esposito (1973-74), Rick Middleton (1976-77) and Cam Neely (1994-95 and 1995-96). In Boston's 4-1 win over Edmonton on Thursday, October 11, Bergeron added one goal and one assist in a season-high 19:08 time on ice. To finish the week, the 33-year-old tallied a season-high three assists in the Bruins' 8-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday, October 13.
In his 15th NHL season, all with the Bruins, the L'Ancienne Lorette, Quebec native is tied for third in the NHL in scoring with 11 points in five games, while his 67 faceoff wins rank fourth in the league. Over his career, Bergeron has appeared in 968 NHL games, totaling 294 goals and 451 assists for 745 points.
