Patrice Bergeron Wins Frank. J Selke Trophy at 2023 NHL Awards

NASHVILLE -The National Hockey League announced today, June 26, that Boston Bruins Captain Patrice Bergeron has been named the winner for the 2023 Frank J. Selke Trophy, given annually to the forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game as judged by the Professional Hockey Writers' Association.

This marks Bergeron's sixth overall and second consecutive win for the Selke trophy. The 6-foot-1, 196-pound centerman holds the League record for most Selke awards, earning the honor in 2023, 2022, 2017, 2015, 2014 and 2012.

In 78 games this season, Bergeron posted 27 goals and 31 assists for 58 points with a plus-35 rating, which ranked fourth among NHL forwards.

The 37-year-old was one of just two players in the NHL to take 1,700 or more faceoffs. Bergeron led the NHL with 1,043 faceoff wins and also led the league with a 61.1 faceoff win percentage (min. 1,000 faceoffs).

Bergeron's play helped lead the way for the Bruins' defense this season, as the team allowed just 2.1 goals per game, the lowest mark in the league. He also helped lead the Bruins penalty kill, which led the NHL with a 87.3 percent success rate.
