BOSTON - Jeremy Swayman will get the call between the pipes for the Bruins on Thursday night against the Detroit Red Wings at TD Garden. It will be the rookie netminder's fourth start of the season and his first since Oct. 28 in Carolina.
"I'm taking it day by day," Swayman said of adjusting to the long breaks in the schedule. "That's what I've learned definitely in pro hockey, especially. It's rare that we get this much time off. It's something that you want to cherish at the same time and make sure that your body is prepared to get back into game mode.
"I think we've done a great job with that, our conditioning on ice, our practices have been 100 percent all out. That's the culture here. Every day, I think we've all gotten better and prepared ourselves to play."

The 22-year-old said that while he and Linus Ullmark have essentially split time so far this season, he goes into each game preparing as if he'll be the starter.
"Of course. I love playing. It's something that you prepare for, make sure during the offseason that you're ready to play day in and day out no matter what the schedule is. When it does come, we're gonna be prepared," said Swayman.
"I'm always staying the same, making sure my mentality is the same as if we're playing every day. I think that's what's helped us, me personally, perform when I do get the start…it's just another day of hockey and I'm gonna prepare myself like it's another day in then office."
The Alaska native, who is 1-2-0 with a 2.71 goals against average and .893 save percentage, is coming off back-to-back losses for the first time in his young career but says he has still taken "a lot of positives" from his three starts.
"Always learning," said Swayman. "Obviously when you don't have a game that goes your way, you want to take the positives and work towards the next game. I thought the Carolina game was a good bounce back. We didn't get the result we wanted but I think that the things that we're doing in practices every day, we're harping on in video and we're gonna be ready to play when we get the chance to."
Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy has been pleased with Swayman's performance to this point but acknowledges it will be key for the youngster to get as many reps as possible as the season progresses.
"We haven't changed our opinion on him. He's a real good goaltender, he just needs to play," said Cassidy. "He needs to play some games to build up some game stamina, some game situations, some confidence, all those things. I think Linus was in the same boat early on. Now he's played a little bit more and you're starting to see him come around."
