This is the 13th year the Bruins have partnered with the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners and the Massachusetts Library System to support literacy programs and encourage reading among youth across the state.
Throughout the summer, Bruins Mascot Blades will visit Massachusetts libraries in an effort to promote the initiative and interact with young readers, who will also have the chance to win official Bruins prizes by competing in hockey trivia and taking photos with Blades.
Libraries across the Commonwealth are also challenging themselves and their residents once again as part of the third annual "First Lady of the Commonwealth and Blades Summer Reading Challenge." The challenge began in 2020 as an option for libraries that made summer reading fully remote during the pandemic and runs from July 1 to August 16. Libraries participating determine their unique challenge goals and are noted below with asterisks.
To help inspire children and teens to keep reading over the summer, Bruins players including Patrice Bergeron, Brandon Carlo and Brad Marchand have helped libraries develop a summer reading list that also includes librarian picks for the best hockey books.
