Jeremy M. Jacobs is the owner of the Boston Bruins and Chairman of Delaware North, one of the world’s leading hospitality and food service companies.
Mr. Jacobs is in his 50th year of ownership of the Boston Bruins and is one of the most respected sports business leaders in the world. The team was honored by the Sports Business Journal in 2012 with the prestigious Sports Team of the Year award.
What he termed his “greatest accomplishment” came when he went on the ice in Vancouver on June 15, 2011, to join in the celebration as his Bruins won the Stanley Cup and fulfilled his dream of bringing an NHL championship to the city of Boston.
Mr. Jacobs has held numerous leadership roles in the National Hockey League since he purchased the Boston Bruins in 1975, representing the team on the Board of Governors in addition to serving on the Executive Committee. He was unanimously elected by his peers to be Chairman of the NHL Board of Governors and has been in that position since 2007.
His contributions to hockey earned him the sport’s ultimate honor in November 2017, as he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. He became the sixth member of the Bruins to be enshrined in the Builder’s category.
That was just the latest in a list of honors that show the esteem in which he is held in the wide world of sports. Mr. Jacobs was inducted into the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame in 2006, awarded the Hockey Legacy Award from the Sports Museum in Boston in 2012, inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in 2013, awarded the prestigious Lester Patrick Trophy from USA Hockey in 2015, named to the Sports Business Journal Champions: Pioneers in Sports Innovation & Business class of 2016, and was inducted into the 2016 class of the Massachusetts Hockey Hall of Fame.
Mr. Jacobs is the Chairman of Delaware North, one of the world’s leading hospitality and food service companies. He has been at the helm of Delaware North for more than 50 years, leading the company to its ranking as one of the largest and most admired privately held companies in North America with 3.7 billion in revenue and 55,000 associates serving half a billion customers on four continents.
Their operating subsidies include industry leaders in food and retail operations at airport and sports venues, ownership of the TD Garden, operations of parks and major tourist attractions, hotel ownership and management, gaming operations, and premier dining and catering services at some of the world’s most iconic tourist destinations.
In 2015, Delaware North commissioned “The Future of Sports”, an interactive publication comprised of input from leading futurists, tech professionals and sports industry experts to project the next twenty-five of the sports industry. The provocative report gained widespread media attention and was studied by other professional and amateur sports teams.
Mr. Jacobs is extensively involved in numerous charitable endeavors. In 2003 the Jacobs family founded the Boston Bruins Foundation, a non-profit organization that assists charitable organizations that demonstrate a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for children throughout New England. Since its inception, the Foundation has raised over $67 million dollars.
Mr. Jacobs is a passionate philanthropist of public higher education and has served in numerous volunteer positions with the State University of New York at Buffalo. His family has made $50 million in donations to the institution, and, in recognition of their continued support, the university named their medical school the Jacobs School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences.
An alumnus of the University of Buffalo’s School of Management and the Harvard School of Business Advanced Management Program, he holds honorary doctorates from the University of Buffalo, Canisius College, Johnson and Wales University and Niagara University.
