Interim head coach Martin St-Louis saw his squad's run come to an end in Winnipeg in a wild game that featured a seven-goal first period, a Josh Anderson hat trick, and a penalty shot.
Montreal allowed the first four goals of the contest before storming back to score the next four -- three off the stick of Anderson for his 13th, 14th, and 15th tallies of the season, a team high. It marked the first hat trick of the forward's career.
Artturi Lehkonen for his part rounded out the Canadiens' scoring with his third goal in the last two games, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Jets. Winnipeg scored four more unanswered to win 8-4.

During his pregame press conference in Calgary, St-Louis confirmed a pair of changes to the lineup. Up front Michael Pezzetta will take Mathieu Perreault's spot on a line with Ryan Poehling and Joel Armia, while in the crease Andrew Hammond will get his third start with the Habs.
A familiar face awaits the Canadiens at the other end of the ice at the Saddledome.
Tyler Toffoli will face his former team for the first time since the trade that sent him to Calgary on Feb. 14.
The winger has played seven games with the Flames since arriving in Alberta, registering five goals and two assists for seven points. Toffoli's success has coincided with that of his new team, which lost just once in February.
The Flames (32-14-6, 1st in the Pacific Division) are coming off a 5-1 win in Minnesota on Tuesday.
The Habs' former North Division rivals are 15-3-0 since Jan. 18, and lead the NHL in offense with 77 goals and an average of 37.3 shots per game over that span.
The Flames' top line leads the charge offensively as Johnny Gaudreau (20G, 47A) and Matthew Tkachuk (27G, 34A) rank sixth and 10th in league scoring, respectively. The pair's center, Elias Lindholm, has 10 goals in his last 11 games.
Winger Andrew Mangiapane is likewise enjoying a career year with 28 goals in 52 games.
Darryl Sutter's tight-knit system and strong play from goaltender Jacob Markstrom meanwhile have kept the club solid defensively, allowing an average of just 2.4 goals per game, second-best in the NHL.
Between the pipes, so far this season Markstrom has posted a .927 save percentage with 25 wins, including eight shutouts.
