MONTREAL - The Montreal Canadiens announced on Wednesday that the team has extended the contract of Vice President of Hockey Operations and Legal Affairs, John Sedgwick, for a period of three years.

Hired in April 2013 as the Canadiens' Director of Legal Affairs, John Sedgwick, a specialist in contracts and legal matters, has been an key member in the day-to-day management of the club. His main responsibilities include negotiating contracts with players, strategic planning for the day-to-day management of the salary cap, arbitration cases, as well as managing situations related to the collective agreement between the National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players Association. He was promoted to Vice President, Hockey Operations and Legal Affairs in July 2017 and works closely with General Manager Marc Bergevin and his management team.
Sedgwick was heavily involved in the launch of the Laval Rocket, while also serving as the principal Governor for the Rocket with the American Hockey League. Along with Bergevin, he also oversaw the establishment of the Canadiens' new affiliation with the ECHL's Trois-Rivieres Lions.
Sedgwick holds a degree in Political Science from Acadia University and obtained his law degree from Dalhousie University Law School. In July 2005, he joined the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society and, since 2007, has been a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada.
