MONTREAL - The preliminary phase of the World Junior Championship came to a close.

Czech Republic 7 - Austria - 0
Jan Mysak helped the Czech Republic claim victory over Austria yesterday, clinching fourth place in Group B.
The Canadiens' second-round pick scored the final goal of the game from the high slot, where he unleashed a perfect wrist shot that fooled the Austrian goaltender. It was his second goal of the tournament.

Mysak also assisted on the Czech Republic's third goal of the game.
The Czech captain won 57 percent of his faceoffs, took two shots on net, and maintained a +3 rating in 20:01 of ice time.
Canada 4 - Finland 1
Canada secured the top spot in Group A with a convincing 4-1 win over Finland.
Canadiens prospect Kaiden Guhle was kept off the scoresheet, but played over 14 minutes and put one shot on net.
Sweden 0 - United States 4
The United States rang in the new year in style, handing Sweden their second loss in as many days.
Cole Caufield didn't participate in any of the goals, though he did put two shots on net in 16:46 of ice time.
The quarter-finals:
All three Canadiens prospects will take part in the elimination phase of the 2021 World Junior Championship, which begins on Saturday with the quarter-finals.
Guhle and Mysak will face each other as the Czech Republic takes on Canada, whereas Caufield and the United States will take on Slovakia.
Finally, Russia will play Germany, and Finland will face their rivals, Sweden.
