Capitals Re-sign Christian Djoos

ARLINGTON, Va. - The Washington Capitals have re-signed defenseman Christian Djoos to a two-year, $1.3 million contract, senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today. Djoos' contract is two-way during the 2017-18 season and one-way during the 2018-19 season.

Djoos, 22, registered 58 points (13g, 45a) in 66 games with the Hershey Bears (AHL) last season, recording career highs in points, goals, assists and games played. The 6'0", 164-pound defenseman ranked tied for first among AHL defensemen in assists in 2016-17 and ranked third in points. In addition, Djoos ranked second among Bears skaters in assists, third in points and tied for seventh in goals last season.
Djoos was selected by the Capitals in the seventh round, 195th overall, in the 2012 NHL Draft. The 6', 161-pound defenseman has represented Sweden at two IIHF World Junior Championships (2013, 2014) and one IIHF U18 World Championship (2012), capturing a silver medal at each tournament. Christian Djoos is the son of former NHL defenseman Pars Djoos, who played for the Detroit Red Wings and the New York Rangers.
