Live-game coverage will again be led by Emmy Award-winning play-by-play announcer Joe Beninati and game analyst Craig Laughlin. NBC Sports Washington will surround all playoff games with live gameday programs Capitals Pregame Live and Capitals Postgame Live. The Capitals (Wild Card 2) will face the Panthers in Game 1 of their first-ever playoff meeting. The Capitals' run of eight consecutive playoff appearances - the second-longest in franchise history behind a stretch of 14 straight from 1983 to 1996 - includes a Stanley Cup win in 2018 and is the second-longest active stretch. With a 44-26-12 record, the Caps reached the 100-point mark for the sixth time in the last eight seasons. Washington is the only team in the NHL that has collected 100 points six times during that span.
Caps captain Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom, who between them own the Capitals records for career playoff goals, assists, points and games played, are expected to extend their shared franchise benchmark for most years in the postseason to 14. Washington's roster includes 13 Stanley Cup champions, including nine who won with them in 2018: Backstrom, Ovechkin, John Carlson, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Lars Eller, Michal Kempny, Dmitry Orlov, T.J.
