Meijer Street Hockey Skills Competition + Youth Hockey Clinic

For the second year, The Detroit Red Wings, Meijer and BodyArmor are teaming up to bring a street hockey skills competition to Michigan. We are also bringing back the Youth Hockey Clinic for those who are interested in learning more about street hockey and how to play. For more information or to register, scroll below!

Divisions

  • Ages 7-8 (8:30-9:30am)
  • Ages 9-10 (9:45-10:45am)
  • Ages 11-12 (11:00-12:00pm)
  • Girls 7-9 (8:30-9:30am)
  • Girls 10-12 (9:45-10:45am)
  • Adults 18+ (June 28th Only – 3:00-6:00pm)

Top three (3) in each age group at each location will compete in the finals at Little Caesars Arena

Youth Hockey Clinic

  • Ages 5-12 (1:00-2:30pm)

Prizing

Each participant will receive a t-shirt, water bottle, certificate of participation and a swag bag. The winner of each division will win a $150 Meijer Gift Card and Trophy.

Registration

  • Skills Competition - $15 per person to register with $5 being donated back to Meijer’s Simply Give Program 
  • Youth Hockey Clinic - $5 per person to register with $1 being donated back to Meijer’s Simply Give Program

Scoring

Each participant will receive 1-50 points for each event. The top spot will receive 50 points and then the points will decrease down.

  1. Fastest Runner
    • Each participant will be timed with an official stopwatch
  2. Accuracy Shooting
    • # of targets hit x fastest time
    • Each participant will be timed with an official stopwatch
  3. Hardest Shot
    • Hardest shot of the two (2) based on the radar will count as the official score
  4. Puck Handling
    • Each participant will be timed with an official stopwatch

Fastest Runner "Skater"

Each player will be timed while running around the rink two (2) times

  • Each player can choose the direction they would like to run
  • Cones will be place around the rink so that everyone has the same path
  • Participants will be timed
  • One (1) turn each

Accuracy Shooting

This challenge puts the participants accuracy to the test.

  • Each participant will receive five (5) balls to shoot
  • There will be four (4) targets to shoot
  • Distance away from goal is determined by age group

Hardest Shot

This challenge measures the speed of the participant's shot.

  • Each participant will shoot behind a predetermined line
  • Participants can start as far back and run towards the line before hitting it
  • If the shot is made but speed is not recorded by the radar, the participant is able to take another shot
  • Each participant will receive two (2) shots
    • Hardest shot will be recorded

Puck Handling

This challenge will showcase the participants skill.

  • Participants will test their puck handling skills through a series of BodyArmor Bottles

    • Must weave in and out of five (5) bottles and turn around at the end and repeat

    • Participants will be timed
